Hillsborough County Demographics

Located on the central west coast of Florida at an elevation of between 0 and 170 feet above sea level, the county is 27.58' N. latitude and 82.32' W. longitude. It is 268 miles northwest of Miami and 82 miles southwest of Orlando. The distance from New York City is 1,152 miles, from Atlanta 461 miles and from Washington, D.C. it is 919 miles.
The total county is 1,072.8 square miles. Tampa, the largest city, is 109.9 square miles. The rest is made up of Plant City with 19.3 square miles, Temple Terrace with 4.5 square miles and the unincorporated area making up the rest at 939.0 square miles.
The population at the 1990 Census was 834,054 with an estimate for 1994 of 864,608. The projection for 2000 will be 962,300. Tampa' s 1994 estimate was 280,587 or 2,553 people per square mile, Plant City was 24,788 or 1,286 people per square mile, Temple Terrace was 17,288 or 3,808 people per square mile and 541,945 or 577 people per square mile reside in the Unincorporated areas. The number of whites is 690,352 or 82.8%. The number of blacks is 110,283 or 13.2%. Those of Hispanic origin amount to 106,908 or 12.8% of the population. The median age is 33 years. There are 340,500 (1990 Census) total households and 384,137 (1994 estimate ) total housing units. Countywide there are 2.51 persons per household. The average new home price is $104,794 and the average home resale price is $ 78,981. There are 361 apartment complexes in the county with a total of 68,382 units. The average price of a condominium / townhouse is $68,328.

Port of Tampa:

The Port Of Tampa is the closest deep water port to the Panama Canal. Garrison Seaport is being created by the Tampa Port Authority on 30 acres of downtown Tampa waterfront land.
Destined to be the largest mix-use entertainment complex in the country, the $300 million project will center around 2 state of the art cruise terminals. The 2 major tenants will be the Florida Aquarium and the Deuteron Entertainment Complex. In 1994, the cruise terminals had 304,345 passengers sailing out of the port.
